Automatic Drain System for Fuel Oil Tank

Abstract

Nowadays, ship’s owners are reducing their running cost by reducing their crew on board ship. Hence, it will increase ship’s crew workload to run and maintain the ship in safe manner. There are quiet numbers of fuel oil tank on board ship, which are located inside engine room, engine room casing and even at forward of the ship. Inside fuel oil tank, there will be amount of water settle-down at bottom due to its density, which is heavier than fuel oil. Large amount of water can jeopardize its running system and machinery. This water must be removed from the tank by draining it to designated tank. The aim of this paper is to describe a simple design on a low-priced system, and application of the microcontrollers unit (MCU) based system. These design were simulated using the Proteus software and then later to implement and test in the hardware models. The program has then compiled in PIC C Compilers, and were programmed into the microcontroller using a programmer for PIC 8-bit microcontrollers
